FORMS OF SLEEP DEPRIVATION-
an ode to insomnia

series of images

It is late, I am forced to sleep with a properly selected substance, I sleep for over 8 hours a day. Maybe it’s better not to fall asleep at all, so as not to lose control, so as not to disappear.

The lack of sleep (belonging to the privileged European group, having a roof over one’s head and its own bed) is mainly psychological.
Insomnia is a chaotic phase when you function as if in a dream, but you are not dreaming, when you receive stimuli all the time, you do not register them, and you are attacked by them. You are swimming in excess but you do not notice them. As if reality doesn’t concern you, as if it doesn’t exist and you have no way to close your eyes to clear yourself – reset your head.
These painting illustrations have become more of an anti-advertising dream than an expression of its need.

In the project, the figure of a human appears indirectly, levitating as shape-shifting matter, penetrating into space and objects. Mental absences from the real world while resting.
Immersed in individual perspective, when he is asleep, and the eye „looks” only at himself – from the inside and physically and mentally. I was looking for a way to talk about the state of limbo that I encountered when I was unable to sleep. I took visual codes from popular ads for sleeping items, from typical advertising brochures from Ikea or Jysk stores.
By distorting and deconstructing elegant synthetic products intended for relaxation, I formed them into specific organic hybrids – gently repulsive.

The image included in the advertising aesthetics was to remind about the general manipulation affecting the subconscious, to draw attention to systemic forms of control and how to try to increase the productivity of people working under unfavorable conditions.
